Thank you for booking your session with me!
My laid back approach will engage you from start to finish as well as put you at ease throughout the creative process. No matter the purpose of a shoot, I approach every assignment as a chance to tell a meaningful story. Our focus will be completely on your goals for our time together. I know how valuable your time and investment is.
The following information is intended to help you be as prepared as you can for our session. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing you soon!
NOTE: Because of Covid-19, I only offer outdoor sessions at this time.
Your Custom Family Portrait Session
Family, newborn, couple, maternity
My approach to family photography is simple, warm and down-to-earth. Rather than posing for the camera, you can expect a much more relaxed experience, ideally at a beautiful location outdoors in the late afternoon. I’ll take photos while you are walking, talking, and laughing, with the goal of capturing you and your family in as genuine a way as possible. My hope is for the images from our time together to become treasures that grace your home for many years to come. Planning ahead can make all the difference with family portrait sessions; the more prepared you are, the more you can simply enjoy the experience.
Location: I have many locations that I love to shoot at regularly, but I am always open to new locations, as well, in case you have a favorite spot. The goal is to choose a spot that fits your style and personality, and I am happy to help you think through this decision.
Time: The images you see on my website look the way they do largely because of my use of light, so the time of day your session takes place is really important. I find that the hour or so before sunset typically provides gorgeous light and atmosphere.
Length of session: My family portrait sessions are approximately one hour. Extended family sessions are 90 minutes.
What to wear: Wardrobe should be comfortable and reflect who you are. You can bring a couple of changes to achieve different looks. Please read HAVE FUN CHOOSING YOUR LOOK.
Here are some key takeaways:
Try everything on in advance to make sure everything fits the way you want
Coordinate, do not match
Bring layers, no matter the forecast
NO NEON COLORS or big patterns
NO BIG LOGOS, brand names, characters, or words on clothing!
Compliment the location
Choose accessories purposefully
Be yourself!
Do ask me for suggestions or help if you want to. My personal style may be different from yours, but I will look at your outfits with a photographer's eye. Plus, I’m Italian so I have really good taste (my friend made me add that part).
Props: I do not use props during my sessions. If you have something specific in mind, please let me know.
Children: I’m much more likely to capture your child’s true nature if we just give them time to relax throughout the shoot, so don't worry if your child is running around and active or is reluctant to be in front of the camera. What we won’t do is tell your child to “say cheese” or pose! Instead, you can plan on letting them play or explored and just be with them. For younger children, it’s best if they’ve had a rest before our shoot and you’ve told them a little about what to expect so that they aren’t caught off guard by meeting a stranger with a camera! You are also welcome to bring snacks (ideally nothing sticky) and water, and if they have a favorite toy or stuffed animal, they are welcome to bring that, too. Whatever will help them feel at ease is likely to make for a more successful shoot. Here’s more information about preparing your children for your shoot.
Start time: Remember, your session is scheduled according to light! Please arrive 5-10 minutes earlier so that you are ready to start on time. Be sure to leave extra time for traffic or parking constraints and other unexpected delays.
