KHAMA’S Personal Branding Session
Khama is an Emergency Department Medical Director and Emergency Physician. She wrote an essay for a storytelling event with the theme of “I See Color” that was recently published by the Washington Post. She needed a professional headshot to be published with her articles and she realized the only photos she had of herself were phone selfies.
“The first time I met Isabella was when she photographed me & my daughters for the Front Steps Project. Somehow, in the space of 10 minutes, she was able to capture each of our personalities as though she’d known us for years. When I needed professional headshots a couple of months later, she once again rose to the moment. Despite an ongoing pandemic requiring physical distancing, she was able to create a warm sense of intimacy. She has the wonderful combination of a keen eye for light and a disarming presence - the hour flew by and I could not be happier with the images”. - Khama
professional portrait with a personal feel
Because the photo was going to be used with a personal opinion piece, Khama wanted images of herself that were professional but also had a personal feel. She chose a location that was outside of her office and hospital. She wanted her photos to convey the sense that she was someone who speaks from the heart, from personal experience, but also with insight and force.
THE SESSION
We met one hour before sunset when the light turns magical, and we chose an outdoor location that allowed for a variety of simple backgrounds, from a concrete wall, to field and water. Khama brought two different outfits and a jacket for an extra layer and different look. In just one hour we took pictures with different combinations of outfits and backgrounds.
After this one hour session, I sent Khama over 25 different images in color and the same images in black and white. These are all her to keep and use as needed in different contexts.
